Attendance

Attendance Policies

*Students are considered tardy if not in homeroom by 7:28 AM

It is very important that your student is in school every day. However, we do realize some absences are unavoidable.  If your student has an ongoing medical condition that will cause him/her to be absent numerous times during the school year - please provide us with written documentation from the doctor at the start of the school year.
*We need verification (a phone call, e-mail or a written note) of an absence from a Parent or Guardian - we cannot take the word of a student.
• If your student has a medical or dental appointment, please send in a doctor's note with your student and have them turn it in to the front office when they arrive.
• If you know your student is going to be absent in advance, please email: AMSAttendance@fcps1.org.

“Unexcused Absence” Any absence for which the parent or guardian has not communicated to the school the reason for their student’s absence and their knowledge and support of the absence within 5 days, including, absences not supported by required documentation above the allowed 15 parent excused absences.

• Any student with 5 unexcused absences, a conference will be required. (no contact from families note or dr's excuse)
• 6 absences – a letter will be mailed home
• 10 absences -without doctor's excuses -a letter will be mailed home requesting a conference
• If attendance does not improve after 10 day conference - a referral will be generated to the Attendance Case Manager.
• Each student's situation is looked at on an individual basis. Please create an account in Infinite Campus. This will allow you to keep track of your student’s attendance. When a student misses school and falls behind academically, they often become discouraged. Please reach out if you have any concerns about your student.

Please note: all attendance letters mailed home are automatically generated.
